About KERI

Greeting Message

President of KERI,
Choe Gyu-ha

Welcome to the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) website.

KERI is a government-funded research institute specializing in electronics and affiliated with the National Research Council of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and ICT. Since its foundation as the Korea Electrical Testing Research Institute in 1976, KERI has continued its remarkable growth each year and emerged as one of the leading electrotechnology research institutes.

KERI has continued to faithfully perform its task of providing testing and certification services and developing electrical technology to directly contribute to the electricity industry for the past 40 years. When founded, it focused on testing of electricity/electrical devices and helped localize heavy electric devices and promote product development and export. KERI has also firmly supported Korea's electric industry. Since reinforcing its research and development to become an integrated research center, KERI has developed large original technology noted by the industry, including 1) 765kV Electric facilities localization; 2) the Energy Management System(EMS); 3) Reactor power control system for nuclear power plants; 4) Korea Distribution Automation System(KODAS); 5) Femto-second laser for industrial applications; and 6) Levitation control system for magnetic levitation vehicle. This technology has been transferred into the industry to contribute to national development. The institute has other leading technology to compete with developed nations in the global market in other fields.

KERI is a nationally-certified testing and certification institute and contributes to Korean heavy electric device industry pioneering overseas as such. KERI is a member of the Short-Circuit Testing Liaison (STL) and issues STL Certificates exclusively according to the STL guide. Certifications issued by KERI are valid in the world market. KERI has comprehensive engineering technology capable of establishing High power and High voltage laboratories. Its new High power laboratory recently completed through the use of its own engineering technology allows its testing capacities to cover up to 1100 kV class circuit breakers with 80 kA of short-circuit making and breaking current. It aims to cement its place as the world's top testing and certification institute by 2025 on this basis.

KERI will strive to proactively use the technology and experience it has acquired in its 40 years of operation to lead the development and growth of the electrical industry. It will work to construct an environment suited to electrification, the core of electricity, and to develop technology leading the future, including promising fusion such as new systems and IoT.

Through this, we plan to become a globalized research institute leading the world of the future and prioritizing Korean citizens and Korean benefit as a localized research institute.

Thank you.
