2 test experts from KERI are appointed as STL TG4, TG17 Convenor
in the Sector of High Voltage Circuit Breaker

- Executive Director Park Seong-jae and Senior Engineer Ryu Jeong-hyun have been recognized for their capability by being appointed as non-European convenors in Eurocentric technology group -

Park Seong-jae (Executive Director, Power Apparatus Evaluation Division) and Ryu Jeong-hyun (Senior Engineer, High Power Laboratory I) from the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute(KERI) have been appointed as convenors of STL (Short-Circuit Testing Liaison) Technology Group.

They are the first non-European convenors appointed in the sector of “High Voltage Circuit Breaker”, the most important among the 17 technology groups of STL.

Short-Circuit Testing Liaison (STL) is an international forum for cooperation between short-circuit test labs all over the world and is a test certification institute with unequaled authority in the global heavy equipment industry. STL is developing a uniform test application method in response to the revision of international standards at the level of the IEC. Respective labs belonging to the STL are actively engaged in technology group activities to take the lead according to capability and interests of respective labs. KERI has been actively engaged in STL activities since 2003, and has gained an official STL membership in 2011.

The technology groups of which Park Seong-jae (Executive Director) and Ryu Jeong-hyun (Senior Engineer) will take the responsibility, include TG4(Task Group 4) and TG17(Task Group 17).

TG4, of which Park Seong-jae (Executive Director) will take the responsibility’, is a technology group that deals with high voltage circuit breaker, which is the most important among heavy electric equipment tests. Traditionally, European covenors have been taking the responsibility of the technology group, but Park Seong-jae has been appointed as covenor this time.

TG17, of which Ryu Jeong-hyun will take the responsibility, is the technology group for comparing the measurement capability between the test labs around the world with the aim of equalizing the test quality for Short Line Faults(SLF), which is the most severe test condition for circuit breakers. KERI's active engagement in the development comparative test programs and the analysis capability of General Manager Ryu Jeong-hyun have been recognized.

KERI has become the first non-European institute with two seats of covenor in the technical group for high-voltage circuit breakers over the last 15 years. The influence of KERI, which represents the Asian test certification institutes, is expected to be strengthened at STL, which has been Eurocentric.

KERI plans to gather opinions on technical difficulties and requirements from domestic companies in the future. Furthermore, through regular training programs, KERI will impart the revision trend of the international standards quicker and enhance the technological level of those in the industry. The goal of KERI is to take the lead in the development of the standard model for comparative tests for the labs all over the world.
